Alka Seltzer Dissolving at Different Temperatures Essay example -- Alk
Alka Seltzer Dissolving at Different TemperaturesThe variable that I will change will be the temperature of the irrigatethat the Alka Seltzer is put in.For my bequeaths I will measure the quantify taken for the Alka seltzertablet to completely purpose in pee at different temperatures.Input variables* Varying go up relate of Alka-Seltzer tablet, i.e. if whoop intosmaller launchs or crushed it will increase the surface ara. (Ifthe surface area is increased (more powdered) the rate of answeralso increases. This means that in that location are more collisions amidstthe solid and liquid.)* Amount of whack water H2O used, i.e. volume (ml).* Amount of Alka-Seltzer tablets used, i.e. quantity of tablets.(one is used)* Number of times the base is stirred. (If the solution isstirred more there are more collisions between the particlestherefore the reaction is speeded up.)* Temperature of Water-C. (As the temperature increases so does therate of reaction. By increasing the tempe rature, particles turn tailfaster, i.e. they have more energy. So, they collide with moreenergy and more frequently.)* pH of Solution Water has pH of 7 at 25C. As the pH returns,i.e as the solution increases in acidity, the rate of the reactionincreases as substantially.Output Variables-----------------Rate of reaction depends on all the 6 points I have stated above-----------------------------------------------------------------* If the surface area of the tablets is increased by crushing, theparticles around it in the solution will have more area to workon, and the rates of reactions will increase because there will bemore collisions. Complete reaction will finish faster.* The more act of water used as we increase the temperature, thequicker the tablets will dissolve because there will be more waterparticles to collide with. So the rate increases.* If the list of tablets being used is increased for the sameamount of water, i.e as concentration increases, rate willincrease as well because there will be more collisions betweenparticles.* If the water with Alka-Seltzer tablets are stirred during thereaction, then the rates of reactions will increase because theparticles will be forced to make contact with each others andreact much quicker, kind of than take their time to make contact, and therefor... ... water bath could have been used, because I could set itto my required temperature. Also it would mean that the solutioninside it would reach the exact temperature or close to It., and notincrease or decrease once the water inside it has reachedequilibration. It was also very difficult for me to come across exactly when theAlka-Seltzer tablets had totally dissolved and consistently decidethis for every result obtained. This was probably the main factor thatwould have decreased the accuracy of my readings. To reverse thishappening I would have needed to use specialized piece of equipmentwhich would tell me exactly when the tablet was dissolvedOverall, I c an come to firm conclusion from my results that support myprediction and background knowledge that As the temperatureincreases, less time will be required for a reaction to take placei.e. the rate of reaction increases. To improve the experiment boilers suit I could use distilled water to avoidinaccuracies related to the hardness of tap water. I believe I shouldget a straight transmission line curve.Another improvement I could have made is to increase the identify of thetemperatures investigated. (10C to 100C).
